“How did the rose ever open its heart and give
to the world all its beauty?
It felt the encouragement of light against its being.”
    Hafiz

There’s an important place in hypnotherapy to experience the ‘encouragement of light’.  When there is too great an emphasis on working with the problem, the client feels that they won’t be whole or ok until all of the problems are resolved.  Their identities become connected to their problems.  That’s where their focus goes.

Making space for the wounded parts is important and valuable work.  It’s an aspect of healing that leads to an experience of wholeness and integration.  We don’t have to expend energy keeping parts of ourselves in the shadows.  It frees us up to live wholly and openly.  But, like most things, work with what hurts is part of the story.  The other part is in recognizing what’s unhurt- what’s waiting to express itself, and needs only the ‘encouragement of light’ to step out into the world.  Otherwise, our focus stays on what needs to be healed, and we don’t notice the beauty of who we are.  We are identified as wounded, and miss out on opportunities to develop our gifts and natural abilities.

To have a whole sense of self means to be with what’s wounded, and to be with and encourage our unique gifts and abilities.

So we work with the wounds, current and past, and we work with really seeing who we are.  Wounded and whole.  ‘Shadow and light source both’, as Rumi says. What needs our strength and compassion to heal, and what needs our simple encouragement and courage to step into the light, to be able to play and explore and develop and express?

At Ashland School of Hypnotherapy, we offer masterful techniques to encourage and develop a positive future, knowing and expressing all the unique beauty that exists within each one of us.
